Care & Maintenance Guidelines

Due to the unique chemistry of EcoTec Surfaces™ , its resistance to scratches will vary. Additional glass content will decrease the likelihood of scratching and will make the EcoTec Surfaces installation less prone to dulling, staining, and abrasion. It is not necessary to seal EcoTec Surfaces. However, you should avoid using undiluted bleach, strong chemicals, solvents, paint removers, or furniture strippers on it.

Routine cleaning with soap, water, and a sponge or window cleaner and paper towels will remove most dirt and stains.

To disinfect, wipe the surface with a diluted solution of equal parts household bleach and water and always towel dry to remove water spots. Removal procedures for stubborn stains will vary depending on the surface finish. See the following information.

Matte Finish:

Basic Care: Many countertops have a matte finish. For this finish, rub with a damp cloth and use a solid surface cleaner.

Scratch Removal: Start with 180-grit sandpaper and a 5” or 6” palm sander. We recommend using SIA 1950 180-grit paper. Follow by using a 280- and a 400-grit paper, feathering as you go. Wipe the surface clean between sanding. Finish by using a grey Scotch-Brite® or similar pad on a palm sander.

Semi-Gloss Finish:

Basic Care: Use a non-abrasive cleanser with diluted bleach, rubbing with a white Scotch-Brite or similar pad. Rinse and towel dry. A non-abrasive polish may be used to enhance the shine.

Scratch Removal: Start with 180-grit sandpaper and a 5” or 6” palm sander. We recommend using SIA 1950 180-grit paper. Follow by using a 280- and a 400-grit paper, feathering as you go. Wipe the surface clean between sanding. Finish by using a grey Scotch-Brite or similar pad on a palm sander and then using an 800-grit wet polish pad.

High-Gloss Finish:

Basic Care: If the counter has a polished or high-gloss finish, apply a bleaching non-abrasive cleaner with a sponge or use a white polishing compound and rub with a soft cloth.

Scratch Removal: Start with 180-grit sandpaper and a 5” or 6” palm sander. We recommend using SIA 1950 180-grit paper. Follow by using a 280- and a 400-grit paper, feathering as you go. Wipe the surface clean between sanding. Use a grey Scotch-Brite or similar pad on a palm sander. Perform a two-step finish using SIA 1500- and 3000-grit wet polish pads. Wipe thoroughly, and finish by polishing with a solid surface polish.

Preventive Care:

Use a hot pad or a trivet under heat-producing appliances or hot pots and pans.

Never cut directly on the surface of the countertop. Always use a cutting board.

Avoid dropping heavy objects on the surface of the countertop

Do not allow harsh chemicals (such as acetone) to come into contact with the countertop.

Wash these chemicals off with water immediately if they touch the surface.

Avoid sliding hard objects across the countertop to prevent scratches.
